Full Version: London By Night

Had a few hours to spare between jobs so I went for a stroll round London and took a few shots along the way.

I am afraid they are nothing new subject wise but I thought I'd give them a go. This was a first in one respect, I had never used a tripod in public like this before and I was a little conscious of it unsure.gif . After a while I thought nothing of it to be honest, which was good biggrin.gif One thing I did learn is that I need a better tripod. The picture of Canary Wharf was the best of a poor bunch. The wind made it impossible to get a steady shot with my cheap lightweight tripod.

Anyway, here are five of them from last night. Any comments welcome as usual.

Thanks for the reply Paul, it's much appreciated smile.gif

Numbers 3 and 5 are the ones that I am most pleased about.

5 is really nice - great colours and nice movement in the clouds.

Really nice shots with great colours.

I really do think these are great smile.gif

What were the exif details on #5 (always trying to learn photo.gif )? Also, what time of day did you get these? You mentioned it was pretty windy so I imagine that is how you got the great effect with the clouds.

Thanks for all the reply and comments smile.gif

Thanks for supplying the exif details fruitcake, hadn't been able to reply as it's been a nightmare few days, having work done at home and my computer has been disconnected for the last 4 days.

They were taken somewhere between 8pm and 10pm. The sky was full of light wispy clouds that were moving at quite a rate because it was more than a little breezy, so I guess thats exactly why the sky came out with that effect. Personally I found the sky to be the most pleasing part of that shot.

Thanks again for your comments.

Keep meaning to have a go at shots like this - I work in central London so its not difficult, but find myself rushing home after work to get away from the rush hour.

Might make an effort when the decent weather comes to take my gear in and join the tripods on the embankment smile.gif

laugh.gif So your the reason they call it the rush hour!!! I wondered why they called it that when everything generally grinds to a halt, your the one managing to actually rush laugh.gif

It'll be worth it when you do find the time to give it a go. I'd like to go up there again and get some more stuff done. Maybe spend an afternoon/evening in London to search out some other stuff to shoot.
